Sunday, February 21st, 2010, was an historic and momentous day in the history of East Valley Pentecostal Church as Bishop John Nelson announces his retirement as Senior Pastor and introduces his successor as Pastor Rodney Nelson. The Congregation of East Valley unanimously ratified Bishop Nelson's appointment of Senior Pastor and rallied around Pastor Rodney Nelson to show love and support.

We congratulate Bishop and Sister Nelson on their retirement after nearly 31 years of faithful service and thank them for their love and leadership these many years. We look forward to seeing how the Lord will use them as He moves their ministry to a new level. Though it is with heavy hearts we witness the closing of this chapter in our history, and we look forward to what God will do in the chapters to come.

The congregation of East Valley Pentecostal Church, proudly congratulate Pastor Rodney Nelson and his two beautiful daughters, Zsaia and Tiara, on becoming Senior Pastor. We are honored to have such a wise and anointed man of God, and we offer our love and full support.

Greetings to the wonderful Saints of the most High! - Entire Database

I must tell you that I am truly humbled by the support that I have felt for the last 24 hours. There has been a whirlwind of excitement and support that I have been receiving from so many people. My phone has been ringing off the hook, the text messages and emails are so many that I have quit counting.
First I want to say,“THANK YOU” from the bottom of my heart for your vote of confidence. I pledge to you that I will strive to hold the office with the dignity my father has upheld for over thirty-one years.
I would like to also send out heartfelt love to my faithful mother and father for being the most awesome parents in all the world. His wisdom, kindness, and understanding are the foundation of the man I am today. After 18 years of working beside my father in ministry, I am honored to say he is still my very closest and best friend.
My mother is just something else. To make it short, she is more than any son could ask for. I would describe her in one word as, “gold"; truly one of the most faithful and wonderful people in the world.
I came to the church this Monday morning not really knowing what to expect. Today's appointments have been full of joy and excitement. There have been members who have come by to personally mention their support of this pastoral transfer.
I believe I have met with most all of the staff members and communicated personally my appreciation for them and the wonderful work for God they are doing. There has been a air of joy in each conversation.
After having lunch with Bro. Tamayo, I had the privilege of joining the prayer worriors in the chapel for prayer. As you know, the Monday morning prayer service is stocked full of intercessory prayer worriors. Today most of the church elders were present. There was so much fire in the room it was just powerful. I entered in the back room as they just finished ceremony pledging their full support behind my ministry. It was so touching as they surrounding me with love and enthusiasm in prayer and was anointed by them. It was just too powerful for words to convey.
I spoke with them about the church having revival and God stirring our hearts. It was just another confirmation that what is happening here at East Valley is Spirit led and ordained. Today is the day of the Lord! Let God arise and His enemies be scattered!
It is now almost 4:00 p.m. and I see about fifty cars in the parking lot. There are many folks moving about on specific tasks. Many great things are happening and I am praying that God will bless you. Today as you go about your day, know this; God is for you and He is watching over you; you are chosen by Him. Your Servant,Pastor Rodney Nelson

The ministry of Rodney Nelson began after pursuing a successful business career in real estate. He knew that the call of God to minister was always on his life, however, it took him some time to heed to this calling after he was filled with the Holy Ghost in 1991. His answer to the call of God on his life led him to study theology at Christian Life College in Stockton, California.

.....Upon his return from Bible College, Rodney established himself in the business world as the spokesman of the National Land Bank and then left his profession to enter the full-time ministry as Pastor Nelson's assistant. He received his local license from the United Pentecostal Church International in May of 1996, his general licenses in February of 1998 and was ordained in May of 1999.

.....Rodney has specialized in developing new ministries within the church. From the highly successful Home Bible Fellowship ministry, his gift of innovation has led East Valley into new venues of meeting spiritual needs, such as our tech ministries. He is highly involved every ministry at East Valley. His passion is to assist East Valley in staying in focus to our calling and ministry. Rodney is man of passion, purpose and vision who has built his life by developing personal relationships with everybody he comes in contact with.

In 2001 Rodney Nelson was installed to be our Co-Pastor. Since this time he has been responsible for all aspects of East Valley Ministries.

East Valley Drama Ministry seeks to present relevant Biblical topics in a dramatic form. We conduct two yearly dramas during Easter and Christmas. In addition we stage several mini dramas to promote many of our events. If you are interested in being a part of East Valley's Drama Ministry, please contact Bro.
East Valley Christian School - School (E.V.C.S.)

We appreciate your interest in East Valley Christian School. Much concern for your child's spiritual and educational welfare is demonstrated by your inquiry into private Christian education. We commend you in taking a proactive stance on establishing a good moral and academic foundation for your child's future. In order to facilitate your interest, let us share some pertinent information about our school and its innovative curriculum with you.

East Valley Christian School was established in 1989 as a ministry of the East Valley United Pentecostal Church. It was founded with the mission of providing children of our church members and other interested families of the community with an exceptional educational and spiritual experience. This mission is inspired by the Biblical commandments to train children in the ways of God (Deuteronomy 6:5-9; Proverbs 22:6; and II Timothy 2:15). Along with our effective curriculum, caring staff, and training in Christian principles, East Valley Christian School also provides a safe haven from many of the tragic situations that are present at a majority of secular schools.

East Valley Christian School not only promotes Biblical values, but it also pursues academic excellence as well. We implement an innovative curriculum known as Lifepacs (Alpha Omega) that strengthens the weaknesses of each student while refining their strengths. This program is used in numerous educational institutions in the United States and in other countries of the world.

We look forward to having your child and family as part of our school. If at any time you have questions about our school or enrollment, please feel free to contact the school office at 408-270-2500 x306. You can also find out more information by visiting us on the web by logging on to http://www.evcsonline.org/.

Element 5 consists of youth ages 12-17. They are a dynamic bunch of young people who get together to exalt God in worship, experience the power of God in prayer, enjoy each other in fellowship, equip themselves with the Word in Sunday school and expose Jesus in them through evangelism.

These five purposes lay the foundation for element 5’s ministry. They are designed and built around the Great Commission which is found in Matthew 28:19-20. The first purpose, EVANGELISM, is sharing the Gospel with those who have yet to discover their relationship with Jesus Christ. The second purpose, WORSHIP, is celebrating our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and is our main reason for existing. The third purpose, FELLOWSHIP, is where Christians help to nurture and encourage each other. The fourth purpose, DISCIPLESHIP, is the building up and strengthening of a Christian’s spiritual walk. The final purpose, MINISTRY, is using the talents and gifts God bestowed to each and every one of us. Click here to contact ministry leader.

Kiddie Kountry is a preschool with an experienced staff dedicated to help your child to develop the skills they will need to become happy and productive children. Kiddie Kountry has been in operation for over 23 and one half years in this community. We are recognized for our high standard of education with quality teachers who have been employed with Kiddie Kountry for many years.

It is our philosophy and goal to create a Christ centered environment where each child will develop at his/her own rate. Our purpose is to enrich the child's knowledge, capabilities, spiritual development and self-esteem. .

We offer one of the most successful curriculums in Christian schools today. ABEKA strongly emphasizes the phonics program, which is the key to reading. It also covers writing skills, math concepts, shapes, colors, Bible time, Christian character and other important basic skills.

We encourage our staff to show forth the attributes given to us in Galatians 5 : 22-23 " But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, (23) meekness, temperance,... From all of these grows character and love.

The school experience should be a happy one for everyone involved: child, parents and staff. We look forward to serving you and your family.

Praise the Lord! Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I thank the Lord that he brought me to America. It is a great blessing to be here. In 1979, I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I saw with my own eyes how the Lord did miraculous things in the Philippines, the lame walked, the deaf heard etc.... but the most important is that peoples lives were changed. .......We cannot be saved by means of religion, but through our relationship with our Savior. My vision for the Filipino Ministry is that many Filipino people here in America will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ, and accept him as their Savior. He is the ony way to salvation. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me" [John 14:6]. .......We appreciate the prayer and support of our Bishop John Nelson, Sis. Nelson, and all the brethren of East Valley Pentecostal Church. Also I would like to thank the Filipino brethren supporting this Ministry. We love you all. God Bless in Jesus name, Amen! .......For more information about our Filipino ministry, you can contact Pastor Deguzman at 408.238.8752.

The Vision of this group is to reach out and connect with other singles both inside and outside of the church. We put an emphasis on this ministry to continuously grow spiritually while drawing closer to God and with each other.

The Passion of this ministry is prayer and outreach. Prayer and outreach was everything in the eyes of the early disciples. Prayer and outreach is a priority for the singles of East Valley today. Each event and gathering is focused and based upon these principles. The One with Christ Group knows how to have fun and touch the hem of the master's garment at the same time!

Activities: Some of the activities that we do are Prayer Breakfast's, Fall Potlucks, Summer Outreach BBQ's, an Annual Christmas Party, luncheons, and other fun activities throughout the year.

We are a dynamic group trying to make a difference in the church and in the lives and hearts of the singles of the Bay Area.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive POWER, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be WITNESSES unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Introduction - Kids Ministry

Our multi-ethnic children's ministry began to unveil as a massive burden in a group of church saints. Working together with unity and dedication it was evident that our future generation for East Valley Pentecostal Church lies in the hands of our children. Four working teams (7-8 members each) were assembled to balance the task of conducting kid's church on Wednesday nights. A Holy Ghost filled couple led each team and utilizes the older youth as helpers in each service. We as a ministry (and parents) have taken our burden and placed it in action to build God's eternal Kingdom.

Bring on The Light - Technical Ministries

The purpose of the Lighting Department is to supply the proper lighting for all services held within the East Valley Pentecostal Church. Though unseen, this ministry will literally light the way for all events held under the EVPC church facility. This is an ever-growing part of the Technical Department and will prove to be a vital asset to this organization.

.....Our lighting technicians operate a state of the art Leprecon theatrical lighting system which consists of 62 fixtures, controlled through a 250 channel lighting console. We use theatrical lighting throughout our services to enhance visibility and effects for choirs, groups, and concerts.

.....Our most recent addition to our lighting Department has been our Jands HOG 500 lighting console. The HOG offers a range of powerful features. This lighting console offers logical, quick programming and playback, without confusing function names. The HOG 500 can handle any combination of fixtures, moving or static, with moving lights as simple to program as conventional fixtures. The configuration of the desk makes programming a snap, with preset groups and focuses at your fingertips in a series of menu blanks. Liquid Crystal Displays provide continuous feedback on programming and playback status. The flexibility and functional range of the HOG 500 makes it ideal for handling the entire spectrum of lighting design, from complex to theatrical dramas, to structured church services and events.

.....The Jands HOG 500 currently operates six Coemar Intelligent lighting fixtures, and two Roscoe Delta 3000 fog machines. The Coemar Intelligent lighting fixtures include 360 degree panning and 180 degree tilting operation, two separate color wheels per fixture, and two separate gobo wheels per fixture. Each fixture is designed to give the sanctuary full lighted motion, sixteen colors, sixteen lighted pattern designs, and full control of focus, iris capacity, and a number of sequenced lighting effects. The end result is fantastic lighting effects for dramas, special events, and a nice controlled setting for church services!

The Presentation Media - Technical Ministries

.......The use of presentation media in the church sanctuary allows the EVPC music leaders and pastoral staff to connect with the congregation on a higher level. Many people consider themselves visual learners, even more then verbal. Another application point is as a supplement to those who use sign language to translate the singing and sermon for the hearing impaired. It is our belief that this ministry is becoming an indispensable part of the EVPC experience.

.......As far as hardware, we are using a 3,000 ansi lumens LCD video projector on a 16 ft. wide (Daylight) motorized screen high speed digital data transfer cable (cat-five). Also, we use multiple computers for graphics' and text, along with Digital Juice graphics' suit for the full motion video. Most announcements are created using Macromedia Flash.

Busy couples need a home base, somewhere they can get away and spend important time with the one they love. Sometimes that base is a place; other times it becomes a moment. The Relationship Builders Quarterly Date Night has become a critical part of marriages all across America who are trying to make their way through the busyness of over scheduling and family priorities. One evening each quarter, couples are re-uniting and reminding themselves of the commitments that make marriages last a lifetime.Click here to contact ministry leader.

A baby dedication is not a baptism. We do not baptize infants. A baby dedication does not ensure that the baby will make it to heaven. The Bible says that a baby is a blessing from God. When you decide to dedicate your son or daughter, you are acknowledging the awesome responsibility God has given you in raising your child. A baby dedication is a ceremony that expresses your desire as parents to raise your son or daughter in the ways of the Bible and to ask God to use your son or daughter for his purposes. You submit your will for your child to His will.

The Bible provides an example for this in that Mary and Joseph took baby Jesus to the temple to be dedicated to God. As followers of Christ, we want to also make this public declaration to your family, and your church. It is invaluable to be able to tell a child as they are growing up that they belong to Jesus and that you have asked God to use them in a formal declaration, i.e. Baby Dedication.

Praise the Lord! Those words come to mind when I think of what the Lord has done in the Ministry of Kiddie Kountry Pre School. This year we celebrate 25 years of service in the Evergreen community. In this time Kiddie Kountry has established a high standard of education with qualified teachers who have been employed with Kiddie Kountry for numerous years.

We offer one of the most successful curriculums in Christian schools today. Abeka strongly emphasizes the phonics program, which is the key to reading.

In Ephesians 4:11 it says, "And He gave some, apostles, and some prophets; and some pastors, and some teachers." As teachers we feel we are called to provide a safe, loving and Christ centered environment to enrich each child's knowledge, capabilities, spiritual development, and self-esteem.

I admire the women who have been so dedicated to this ministry, because it truly takes someone special to work with children. My prayer is that Kiddie Kountry be the greatest preschool this side of heaven, bringing glory and souls to God's kingdom.

In His Service,

A Man With a Vision - Bishop Johnny Nelson

Senior Pastor John & Sharon Nelson - Pastor Nelson began his God-given ministry in the city of Riverbank in the late 1967, not long after he was converted to the Apostolic faith. He evangelized throughout the state of California and held one pastorate in the San Joaquin Valley as his ministry grew and matured. His ministerial success did not prevent him from hearing the voice of God and exploring an even higher plateau of ministry. This exploration would take him from the farmlands of central California to the urban expanse of Silicon Valley.

.....In 1979, John Nelson was led by God to shepherd a small congregation in the Evergreen area of East San Jose. This congregation numbered 11 faithful saints who were hungry for a pastor to lead them to authentic Apostolic revival. As Pastor Nelson genuinely nurtured this fledgling group, the Lord Jesus Christ sent revival to East Valley. Drug addicts, alcoholics, and other unregenerate types were converted to a new way of life. Most of the souls won in this early revival of East Valley's history are still faithful saints in the church today.

.....In 1983 the first real church building was completed allowing this congregation to move out of the three care garage they had previously called the church. In the 16 years since this construction, God has miraculously poured out his Spirit to the point that East Valley now has an 850 member congregation with ministries in three different languages. This growth, along with the voice of God, has prompted Bishop Nelson to lead the church through another building project. Finished in the summer of 2001, this 63,000 square-foot complex is one of the best churches in the bay area!

.....Pastor Nelson is a man of vision. This characteristic has not changed since he inherited East valley's 11-member congregation in 1979. His desire is to lead East Valley to an unprecedented level of Apostolic revival and to guide this church's ministry to meet spiritual needs throughout the entire Bay Area. He and his wife Sharon have three children: Shawn, Rodney, and Heidi. All three of their children are faithful Christians and are active participants in the various ministries of the church.

Along with his duties at East Valley, Pastor Nelson serves as Chairman of the Camp Meeting Committee of the Western District U.P.C.I. This is the largest conference gathering of Apostolic Pentecostals in the western United States.

Bishop Nelson also serves as the Western District section 9 presbyter. He is responsible for all United Pentecostal Churches from San Francisco down to Kings City. It is burden to work with new and seasoned pastors to become all that has called them to be.

Tithing - What We Believe

We believe tithing is God's financial plan to provide for His work, and has been since the days of Abraham. Tithing came with faith under Abraham; Moses' law enjoined it, and Israel practiced it when she was right with God; Jesus endorsed it (Matthew 23:23); and Paul said to lay by in store as God has prospered you.

Scripture is abundantly clear as to the reason God has given us the commandment to tithe. One of God's greatest desires is to bless His children in the area of financial provision; thus, His commandment to tithe. (Malachi 3:10)

Our Lord's promise of abundant life includes glorious financial provision, as we are consistently obedient to honor Him in the tithe, which is 10% of our income (Deuteronomy 8:18; 26:12-16; Hebrews 7:8; Malachi 3:11).

Offerings - What We Believe

We believe that the giving of offerings is an integral form of worship of a born-again believer. An offering differs from a tithe in that it is not a pre-determined portion of an individual's income. This financial seed is any monetary amount given above tithing.
2 Corinthians 9:7 says, "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."

Jesus said in Luke 6:38, "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."

Blessing and God's favor can be expected by an individual who is faithful in tithes and offerings (Malachi 3:8-12).

Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!

It gives me great pleasure to present to you the Articles of Faith that are held dearly by the congregation of East Valley Pentecostal Church.

Often when a family walks inside the doors of our church, their attention is immediately focused on the beautiful edifice the Lord has blessed us with. However, as they proceed into the sacntuary and feel the genuine power of the Holy Spirit, their attention changes from earthly things to things that are spiritual and eternal.

After the conclusion of our service, this same family may wonder how did East Valley reach this level of ministry. What is the secret behind their success and spiritual ministry?

The answer to this question can be found in the pages of this booklet. East Valley is not built upon programs personalities, or status quo. Rather it has been built upon a faithful adherence to the biblical principles described in this book.

As we progress to impact the city of San Jose with the Gospel, we will continue to hold fast to the Godly principles in our Articles of Faith. For we have discovered that true success can only be built upon the Word of God (Joshua 1:8)!

As a current or new member of East Valley Pentecostal Church, we pray that this booklet will be blessing to you as you discover the bedrock principles that have proven to be a steadfast foundation for this church since 1979.

The basic and fundamental doctrine of East Valley Pentecostal Church is the Bible standard of full salvation, which is repentance, baptism in water by immersion and the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.

We shall endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit until we all come into the unity of the faith at the same time admonishing all brethren within our fellowship that they shall not contend for their different views to the disunity of the body.

Divine Inspiration of the Bible - What We Believe

We believe the Bible to be inspired of God, the infallible Word of God. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (II Timothy 3:16).

The Bible is the only God-given authority which man possesses; therefore, all doctrine, faith, hope, and all instruction for the church must be based upon, and harmonize with, the Bible. It is to be read and studied by all men everywhere, and can only be clearly understood by those who are anointed by the Holy Spirit (I John 2: 27). "No prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost" (II Peter 1:20-21).

This Book contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword, and the Christian's charter. Herein, paradise is restored, heaven opened and the gates of hell are disclosed. Christ is the grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. It is given to you in life, will opened at the judgment, and remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibilities, rewards the greatest labors, and condemns all who trifl e with its contents.

The Name of Jesus - What We Believe

God used different titles, such as "God Elohim," "God Almighty," "El Shaddai," "Jehovah," and especially "Jehovah Lord," the redemptive name in the Old Testament.

"Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:... and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6). This prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled when the Son of God was named. "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21).

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

The name of Jesus is the highest revelatory title of God 's manifestation to mankind. It is to be invoked in prayer, baptism, and all other activities conducted by his followers (John 14:13; Acts 2:38; Colosians 3:17).

We believe in the one ever-living, eternal God: infinite in power, holy in nature, attributes and purpose; and possessing absolute, indivisible deity. This one true God has revealed Himself as Father in creation; through His Son in redemption; and as the Holy Spirit in regeneration, (I Corinthians 8:6; Ephesians 4:6; II Corinthians 5: 19; Joel 2:28).

The Scripture does more than attempt to prove the existence of God; it asserts, assumes and declares that the knowledge of God is universal (Romans 1:19, 21, 28, 32; 2:15). God is invisible, incorporeal, without parts, without body, and therefore free from all limitations. He is Spirit (John 4:24), and "a spirit hath not fl esh and bones" (Luke 24:39).

"The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord" (Mark 12:29; Deuteronomy 6:4). "One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all" (Ephesians 4:6).

This one true God manifested Himself in the Old Testament in divers ways; in the Son while He walked among men; as the Holy Spirit after ascension.

The one true God, the Jehovah of the Old Testament, took upon Himself the form of man, and as the Son of man, was born of the virgin Mary. As Paul says, "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the fl esh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory" (I Timothy 3:16). The manifestation of Almighty God as the Son of God for the purpose of providing salvation to a lost world is the central truth of the Scriptures.

"He came unto his own, and his own received him not" (John 1:11). This one true God was manifest in the fl esh, that is, in His Son Jesus Christ. "God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them" (II Corinthians 5:19).
We believe that "in him [Jesus] dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily" (Colossians 2:9). "For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell" (Colossians 1:19). Therefore, Jesus in His humanity was man; in His deity was and is God. His fl esh was the lamb, or the sacrifice of God. He is the only mediator between God and man. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (I Timothy 2:5).

Jesus on His Father's side was divine, on His mother's side, human; thus, He was known as the Son of God and also the Son of man, or the God-man.

"For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him" (I Corinthians 15:27). "And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all" (I Corinthians 15:28).
"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is , and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty" (Revelation 1:8).
